But in today's digital television programs are broadcast through satellite.  The signals emitted from the satellite are sent to the receiver by reflection by a direct antenna mounted on the roof where these signals are decoded by the receiver and we enjoy the actual program.These signals may be digital signal or may be analog signal.

Now these signals can reach the user in two ways with dish antenna-

• Through cable

In this type of TV broadcasting, only the operator receives the signals received from the satellite through its direct antenna into the receiver.The signals thus received now reach everyone's homes through cable, which gives us service at a much lower cost.

But there are many drawbacks in this method

Suppose any live match is running on stars sports channel exclusively.Then if someone is streamed it online platform and generate a revenue from it.Then it is a very difficult process to take any action against the culpri,because that person's identification may took longer time.By this time, he can delete the website or delete his channel or remove content.

To solve all these inconveniences, the concept of set top box was brought.

In this type of method every user have it's owe dish antenna and own set-top box in his house. Through he can access all the service.

Benefits of set top box is very wide.

It makes the clarity of the running programs.

Through this it is very easy to calculate TRP ( Telivision rating point ) of any programs.It is the measurement of number of people are viewing the show or programs on the particular channel.It become very easy by advertising parties to sell their products.

Through set top box it is very easy to prevent the piracy.If you ever notice this number flash on your TV screen during any show or program this is the uniquely generated number by your set top box.This will be the very different number on the other tv at the same time.

Through this number it is very easy to reach the culprit which is doing piracy of any content.

This is the only reason why the government is pushing users to install set top boxes.
